Thermal insulation

Unlike a decade ago, much greater attention is now being given to roof insulation. Especially due to attic spaces, the roof must be adequately thermally and also hydro-insulated. Quality thermal insulation prevents heat ingress during summer and heat loss during winter.

We offer thermal insulation from various manufacturers for flat roofs and pitched roofs. We provide insulation made from different materials such as glass wool, rock wool, wood insulation, PIR insulation, EPS, and XPS insulation.

Mineral wool

Mineral wool, also known as stone wool, is a traditional insulation material used in construction for sealed systems of flat and pitched roofs with either utilized or unutilized surfaces. It has many advantages, such as low thermal conductivity, chemical neutrality, high melting point, and, most importantly, non-combustibility. It is also a good, cost-effective sound insulator.

However, it is sensitive to moisture – 100% waterproofing on the external side and vapour permeability on the internal side are necessary to ensure its long lifespan. Strict safety precautions should also be observed when working with it, especially to avoid contact with the eyes and respiratory system.

Glass wool

Glass wool, like stone wool, is a thermal and acoustic insulation material. It can be used in rolls, as loose fill, or for blow-in installation. It is resistant to mould, but only when it remains dry. Once again, it is important to ensure waterproofing on the external side and vapour permeability on the internal side because it can slump in the presence of moisture, leading to thermal bridging. In such cases, prompt replacement is necessary as it is no longer functional.

When working with it, irritation to the eyes, skin, and respiratory system is possible due to the glass fibers, so caution and protective measures are required.

PIR thermal insulation

PIR thermal insulation consists of rigid polyurethane foam boards with excellent thermal conductivity and is used for insulating floors and ceilings, flat roofs, pitched roofs, walls, ventilated facades, underground garages, and basement ceilings. Therefore, it is used in construction, shipbuilding, or vehicle upgrades. Due to its outstanding efficiency in terms of measured insulation values, a thinner layer of this insulation is required, which provides more interior space, and it can still meet the requirements of the Eco Fund.

The insulation systems themselves remain cool even in hot weather. They do not absorb condensation or moisture. Installation is easy, fast, and efficient due to its lightweight. Being a lightweight insulation, it also reduces the weight of the roof.

Styrofoam or Polystyrene

STYROFOAM or POLYSTYRENE is produced from oil through a special expansion process, resulting in small beads.

EPS (expanded polystyrene) and XPS (extruded polystyrene – Stirodur) are solid and durable. They can be enhanced with graphite, aluminium, or carbon, which further improves their insulation properties. The thermal insulation varies depending on the thickness of the boards.

Its best qualities include good insulation (does not absorb water), lightweight material, easy installation, dimensional stability, moisture resistance, and durability. However, it has a negative impact on the environment. It is also highly flammable.

Eco Insulations

Over the years, with the increasing ecological awareness, natural materials that have been used for centuries are making a comeback in the construction industry. Materials such as wood, clay, straw, hemp, coconut, sheep wool, lime, and others are environmentally and health-friendly.

Straw, for example, besides its excellent insulation properties, is also environmentally and health-friendly. However, it is sensitive to moisture and not fire-resistant. Wood is indispensable in construction. Boarded ceilings provide a phase shift in heat or cold transfer through the roof. Wood fibers can also be machine-blown or poured. Cellulose, which is recycled from old newspapers, is also used in a similar manner.

The type and usage of natural resources often depend on the specific region.

Suppliers

KNAUF INSULATION offers thermal insulation for various applications such as flat roofs, pitched roofs, flat roof renovations with higher loads, and green solutions.

Products for flat roof insulation include SMARTroof Top, SMARTroof Thermal, and SMARTroof Hard. These are rigid insulation boards designed for thermal, acoustic, and fire protection of flat roofs with concrete or profiled metal substructures. They are used according to the required compressive strength.

For pitched roofs, SMARTroof Top CTF1 slope board is available, which eliminates the need for slope concrete and provides sufficient static load capacity for the structure while enabling a simple rainwater drainage system.

Glass wool Unifit and NaturRoll Plus are used for the insulation of pitched roofs and dry construction.

For green solutions, a complete system called URBANSCAPE is available.

PUREN offers comprehensive solutions in the field of construction, with easy processing and exceptional usability.

They provide insulation systems for pitched, flat, and sloping roofs, insulation material for floors and facades, as well as special products for parking areas in garages and for building protection and roof renovation.

PUREN insulation boards provide uniform protection against heat and cold. Boards made of rigid PU foam are completely free of biocides, safe for health, and allergy-friendly. Therefore, PUREN materials meet the requirements of the PUREN life certificate. PUREN insulation materials also do not allow condensation to develop. Thus, the boards’ performance remains unchanged and protects the entire roof. With a vapour-permeable foil already applied on the boards, an additional work step is saved. The boards are lightweight, and even with solar elements, the overall weight is still lower than that of boards made of wood fibers, for example.

Recycling is also possible – transformation into a new functional material called Purenit.

Insulation for pitched and flat roofs made of PIR/PUR foam can be protected on both sides with foil or a special felt. The edges can be straight or with self-adhesive grooves.

They also have solutions for green roofs with Puren FD-XL boards.

KINGSPAN is a manufacturer of roof and wall panels and PIR insulation for pitched and flat roofs. It is a leading global provider of advanced solutions for building insulation and cladding, whose mission is to accelerate emissions reduction. PIR panels can be faced on both sides with composite foil or mineral fabric. On the upper side, a vapour-permeable foil with adhesive overlap or according to the application is used.

They meet the safety requirements for fire protection (FM approval).

ERYAP Turkey is our newer supplier of stone wool under the brand name BONUS STONE WOOL PREMIUM R. These are high-density boards designed for use in flat and pitched roof systems where resistance to foot traffic for occasional maintenance is also required. They provide excellent sound, fire, and thermal insulation of buildings. They can be installed on profiled metal sheets or concrete structures. They are used for the insulation of new constructions and the renovation of existing buildings.

Upon request, they also offer stone wool for other applications, such as facades under the brand name BONUS STONE WOOL PREMIUM F for sound and thermal insulation, providing well-insulated, fire-resistant facades.

ROCKWOOL stone wool is the only product on the market with dual-density stone wool boards. The outer layer with higher density provides better mechanical properties, while the inner layer with lower density improves thermal insulation properties. It offers elasticity and improved mechanical characteristics for facades or roofs, enabling a durable and efficient solution throughout the building’s lifespan.

It is fire-resistant, provides sound insulation, has low thermal conductivity, is water repellent, and at the same time vapour-permeable. It is also chemically neutral and resistant to ageing and decay. It is intended for buildings and industrial facilities, covering multiple segments such as flat roofs, pitched roofs and attics, floors and partition walls, contact and ventilated facades, industrial and technical insulation, and fire protection of building structures.

URSA produces products made of mineral glass wool and extruded polystyrene for thermal and acoustic insulation and fire protection. Their use permanently reduces the energy needs of a building and significantly improves living comfort. The thermal insulation made of URSA GLASSWOOL mineral glass wool is an optimal solution for providing a comfortable indoor climate in buildings. It is a material that is harmless to health. The elastic glass fibers provide an optimal combination of thermal and sound protection. URSA GLASSWOOL mineral glass wool is non-combustible according to European classification and belongs to class A.
