System solutions for the waterproofing and thermal insulation of flat roofs
Flat roofs are exposed to harsh weather conditions every day and can, over time, become damaged and deteriorate. It's the most critical area of a building, protecting occupants and the interior from the elements. That's why the roofing for a flat roof must be well chosen, well designed and well installed to last. The right roofing membrane must be selected, along with proper waterproofing and thermal insulation for the flat roof. Sika's roofing systems are not only durable against wind, rain, snow, hail and other weather conditions, but are also the result of decades of expertise and support.
With Sika's comprehensive range of flat roof products, you'll get an effective, fully coordinated flat roof system. You can choose from the various system solutions listed below.
Sika flat roof programme
Sika PVC roofing membranes
The raw material base of Sikaplan® synthetic roofing membranes is plasticised polyvinyl chloride (PVC-P). Depending on the area of application, additives are added to the Sikaplan® formula to improve protection against various environmental and weather influences. In addition, the roofing membranes are reinforced with a carrier material inserted at their core, such as polyester fabric or glass-fibre fleece.
Depending on the intended use, you can choose between the following PVC membranes:
Sikaplan® G/VG (loose-laid, mechanically fastened)
Sikaplan® U (loose-laid, mechanically fastened)
Sikaplan® SGK (bonded or loose-laid, mechanically fastened)
Sikaplan® SGmA (loose-laid)
Sikaplan® RV-s (self-adhesive)
Sika FPO roofing membranes
Flat roofs have long since stopped being seen merely as a cost-effective alternative. They represent forward-looking architecture, a functional way of building and a sustainably oriented economy. Sarnafil® FPO-based roofing membranes are always the right choice, as they ensure the optimal coordination of appropriate roofing systems that have been tested over the long term and offer tailored solutions. Sarnafil® roofing membrane is a synthetic compound made from high-quality, flexible polyolefins (FPO).
Depending on the intended use, you can choose between the following FPO membranes:
Sarnafil® TS/TS-E – internally reinforced with a fleece of glass and polyester fibres.
Sarnafil® TG – uses a glass-fibre fleece encased in synthetic material as an insert.
Sarnafil® TG Felt PS – the lower laminated layer of polyester and glass-fibre fleece allows direct full-surface bonding to EPS/PUR.
Sika liquid-applied membranes (LAM)
A liquid-applied membrane (LAM) is a monolithic, fully bonded liquid-based coating suitable for a wide range of waterproofing and roofing applications. The coating cures to form a rubber-like elastomeric, waterproof membrane and can be applied to many substrates, including asphalt, bitumen and concrete. Liquid-applied waterproofing with a LAM membrane is a popular, cost-effective choice, ideal for exposed roofs with numerous complex details and penetrations.
Sikalastic products for liquid-applied waterproofing:
Sikalastic®-810 – a PUR-based primer for liquid membranes
Sikalastic®-851 – a liquid polyurethane/polyurea hybrid membrane
Sikalastic®-8800 – a pure polyurea liquid membrane
Sikalastic®-8850 – a chemically resistant, spray-applied polyurea membrane
Sika bitumen-based membranes
Bitumen is widely used in construction due to its excellent waterproofing properties. Bitumen membranes are ideal for waterproofing various types of roofs, basements, underground structures, bridges and other structures. Sika's bitumen membrane is a thin layer of impermeable material that is fully bonded to the surface. It's a flexible system that can maintain its waterproofing performance without cracking.
Sika roof thermal insulation
Thermal insulation is one of the most important components of a roofing system, as it creates a comfortable indoor environment by protecting the building from heat and cold, while also helping to reduce heating and cooling costs. The importance of thermal insulation has increased in recent times, particularly due to changing insulation standards worldwide, which are placing greater demands on the thermal resistance of building structures in order to reduce heating or cooling energy losses. Insulation types used in flat roofing systems must have not only high thermal properties, but also sufficient mechanical properties to withstand loads. Sikatherm products are precisely that.
Sika roof accessories and equipment
Roof accessories are important components for completing a roofing system. A complete, fully compatible range of flat roof system components enables reliable preparation and efficient execution of details. The roofing tools distributed by Sika support safe, fast and reliable product installation. Roof accessories include: drains, side outlets and overflow safety drains, vapour barriers, adhesive tapes, corner pieces, elements for roof penetrations, safety systems, lightning conductor elements, and more.
