Clay roof tiles
Clay roofing, with its centuries-old tradition, has to this day been present the longest on the roofs of Slovenian houses. Clay roof tiles are made of natural material – clay, which gives the building beauty and warmth; they are environmentally friendly products that ensure quality and comfortable living.
Clay is a material that can absorb and release moisture throughout its lifetime, which is why we can confidently say that a roof covered with clay tiles breathes. The surface of a roof tile can be natural (fired clay), engobed or glazed – glossy engobe. The colour layer is applied to the raw tile before the kiln and is then fired together with the tile in the kiln.
Because clay roofing is completely natural, it has the ability to retain moisture and later release it again. Compared to some roofing made of other materials, this is a certain advantage, as condensation does not form on the underside of the tiles.
The purchase of clay roofing is basically determined by the roof pitch itself. Clay roofing is suitable for covering from 10 degrees upwards. However, it should be noted that for each model and low pitch, a special under-roof is prescribed, which we call a membrane, since at very low pitches the membrane itself must already ensure roof watertightness.
Roofs covered with clay tiles are resistant to UV rays, acids and alkalis, are non-combustible and frost-resistant. They require no maintenance and achieve a long service life. Clay tiles have a service life of up to 100 years and can be fully recycled.
